About Us
A Guardian ad Litem advocate is a trained community volunteer who is appointed, along with a Guardian ad Litem attorney, by a district court judge to investigate and determine the needs and best interest of abused and neglected children. These children have been petitioned into the court system by the Department of Social Services. While no particular experience is required, all Guardian ad Litem advocates share a sincere concern for the well-being of children. Their role is mandated by North Carolina General Statute 7B-601. In the fiscal year 2019-2020 North Carolina had 5,443 Guardian ad Litem advocates and 17,923 children who received legal representation. There was $14.2 million saved due to volunteer efforts.
