Cancer Services of Eastern NC has received a $50,000 Grant from Camber Foundation for breast cancer screenings in rural communities of Eastern NC.

Greenville, NC: Cancer Services of Eastern NC is pleased to announce that it has been awarded a $50,000 grant from Camber Foundation. This is the 3rd grant award from the Camber Foundation to Cancer Services of Eastern NC, which has enabled hundreds of 3-D breast cancer screenings for residents of rural ENC who otherwise would not have access to one.
Camber Foundation is an emerging foundation that provides grants to nonprofit organizations working to address existing needs through community-driven solutions. Camber selected Cancer Services of Eastern NC because it aligns with the Foundation’s commitment to support organizations that reach out to Camber to strengthen the health and wellness of underserved Eastern North Carolinians.
Breast Cancer Screening is critically important in rural Eastern North Carolina for several reasons:

  1. There are higher breast cancer mortality rates in ENC due to late diagnosis.
  2. There is limited access to healthcare because of fewer facilities, specialists, and many residents do not have adequate transportation.
  3. The economic impact of providing mammograms in rural communities is significant, as higher poverty rates and limited healthcare access lead to delayed diagnoses, resulting in more costly treatments and poorer outcomes.
  4. In rural Eastern NC, trusted community programs and churches play a powerful role in promoting health awareness and encouraging participation in preventative services like mammograms.
  5. Each mobile mammography event allows the patient and family to apply for Medicaid.
“In rural ENC, a breast cancer screening is more than a medical test—it’s a door opener. When we offer screenings, we are not just detecting disease early; we are meeting residents where they are and helping them connect their families to basic healthcare, breaking cycles of health neglect,” said Lynn Pischke, Executive Director of Cancer Services of Eastern NC.
