Director of Design

Our ideal candidate can expect to:

  • Provide staff with design direction and support to ensure consistent and high-quality design.
  • Be responsible for clear and consistent communication between each branch of the project team.
  • Assist Project Managers in developing project scope, schedules, and fees.
  • Plan, execute and deliver projects that meet the client’s budget and schedule by way of concept-based design processes.
  • Assist as needed with construction drawings and specifications.
  • Analyze and address technical and design issues with the project team to produce a constructable solution.
  • Perform construction administration services including on-site observations, processing of submittals/substitution requests, reviewing/approving payment applications, and addressing RFIs.
  • Work with local jurisdictions and permitting officials.
  • Work with Technical Lead to further firm-wide initiatives to control quality, risk, and delivery of technical aspects of work produced.
  • Assist with the implementation and continued development of Revit and BIM documentation standards.
  • Assist in mentoring junior staff.
  • Develop and maintain positive client relationships.
  • Collaborate with firm leadership, marketing, and business development to ensure continued office growth.

Our ideal candidate has:

  • 15+ years related experience, with at least 10 years as a licensed professional.
  • Experience with higher education and/or health care design.
  • Working knowledge of building codes, standards, and building systems.
  • An informed understanding and experience with building envelope design and detailing.
  • Knowledge of materials, construction techniques, systems, specifications, and codes.
  • Experience in construction administration, costing review, and value engineering.
  • A high comfort level working on concurrent projects of diverse scale and type in various stages of development.
  • High proficiency with AutoCAD and Revit.
  • Excellent verbal and written communications skills.
  • A penchant for creative and collaborative problem-solving.
