The Junior League of Greenville, NC presents the Little Black Dress Initiative

March 15, 2019
GREENVILLE, N.C. (3/15/19) – The Little Black Dress Initiative (LBDI) is a social media fundraising campaign that The Junior League of Greenville, NC is embarking on March 18-22, 2019 as part of our mission to empower women in our community. Through it, we aim to bring awareness to and help alleviate the effects of food insecurities in our area. Members will wear the same black dress every day and highlight their involvement through social media posts.

Wearing one dress every day for five days represents the lack of resources available to those who are food insecure. Wearing the dress is symbolic of standing in solidarity with those dealing with this issue. Our hope is that this initiative will help to humanize and give a voice to those dealing with food insecurity.

The Junior League of Greenville, NC has an issue based community impact area focused on decreasing hunger and food insecurity in the Greenville community and to help foster physical activity and healthy eating habits. We impact these areas through our community projects, financial support, and thousands of volunteer hours, in an effort to fulfill our mission of improving the community through effective action and leadership.

This is the second year that The Junior League of Greenville has participated in the Little Black Dress Initiative.  Last year over $10,000 was raised to support our community impact statement to help fund programs such as Kids in the Kitchen, Book Bag Buddies and other food insecurity initiatives in the Greenville community.
