About Us

''Waverly was born on February 19, 1928 at his home place of Cherry, NC to Pearl and Milton Phelps. Before becoming a successful business man, Waverly served in the Navy. He lived in Columbia, NC where he owned and operated a used car business. In 1965, he moved his family to Greenville, NC. He became the founding owner and operator of the family business Phelps Chevrolet for the past 48 years. Waverly was a self-made man and believed in hard work, honesty, integrity, and treating all people with respect. He instilled and modeled these character traits for his children and grandchildren. The dealership today is operated by his sons, Waverly Darrell Phelps, Jr. and Michael Phelps. Three of his grandsons work there today: Wave Phelps, West Phelps, and Allen Morrisette.''
