In April 1973, Walstonburg Community Health Program (WCHP) officially opened a medical clinic in Walstonburg. WCHP transitioned to Greene County Health Care (GCHC) and eventually expanded to Snow Hill, Greenville in Pitt County and Bayboro in Pamlico County. GCHC transitioned to Contentnea Health in 2023. Contentnea Health is a federally qualified community health center that has provided primary health care in eastern North Carolina for 50+ years. Our current delivery system includes five primary medical care sites, three dental care sites, two school-based health clinics, two mobile medical units and one mobile dental unit. We offer medical, dental and behavioral health care from James D. Bernstein in Greenville, Kate B. Reynolds, Greene, and Greene Dental Services in Snow Hill and Pamlico in Bayboro. We accept insurance and provide care using a sliding fee scale for those patients who qualify. The National Committee for Quality Assurance recognizes us as a Level 3 patient-centered medical home - the highest designation. We are an equal opportunity provider and do not discriminate on the basis of race, color, national origin, sex, age or disability.
