Our mission is to improve the health of babies by preventing birth defects, premature birth, and infant mortality. The March for Babies is our signature event bringing residents in Greenville and the surrounding areas together for one walk, one voice, and with the hope that one day all babies will be born healthy. There will be kids activities, food and fun for the whole family. Be a part of something greater than us all...a part of saving a baby's life. It's good to give and good to get something back.
Premature birth is the leading cause of infant death in North Carolina. Each year, more than 16,000 babies are born too soon in North Carolina. Many premature babies suffer lifelong consequences such as mental disability, blindness, learning disability, and cerebral palsy. The average medical cost of one premature baby is estimated at $50,000, while the total annual cost nationwide is more than $26 billion. The emotional costs for families are immeasurable.
Start a team and raise money to help moms have full-term pregnancies and healthy babies. We research the problems that threaten our babies and work on preventing them. The money you and your team raise also helps us bring information and comfort to parents with a baby in the NICU and helps more women and children in our community get access to health care. We know your real reward is knowing that you're helping babies.
Please support the March for Babies in Greenville by registering your team at www.Marchofdimes.org and raise funds for valuable research, prenatal vitamen distribution, education. Did you know that if your have children, your lives were touched by the March of Dimes through nurse education and child immunizations..
